I'm very interested in the article about a priest writing a book about Reiki. I'm a Catholic and I've read Christian newspapers articles very much against Reiki and I did not agree with their comments but I must admit I felt a bit uncomfortable. However, I make my own decisions and Reiki is a very big part of my life now and I am looking forward to reading what the priest has to say.

    Sister Mariusza,a Catholic nun,
I think it was in 1979 that she
    received an official certificate
    Apostolic Blessing from Pope John
Paul II in recognition of her work
    with Reiki.

Here is an extract from a letter by Wanja Twan (1st May 2009) to the Editor of the National Catholic Reporter:
Wanja Twan wrote:I was one of the 22 Reiki Masters taught by Mrs Takata. I subsequently taught Sister Mariusza Jadwiga Bugaj this pure form of Reiki in 1991 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Sister Mariusza, a Catholic nun, had among her teachers Karol Wojtyla who became Pope John Paul II in 1979. The enclosed three colour photographs were taken by video when I visited Sister Mariusza in October 1994 in Pultusk, Poland. They show an officially certificated Apostolic Blessing from Pope John Paul II in recognition of sister Mariusza’s work with Reiki.

So it would seem that the Apostolic Blessing was actually granted sometime between 1991 and 1994.

    Thanks James for refreshing this
    information much appreciated. It
was Rob on Reiki4 that brought my
attention to the fact that nuns
in the US were practicing Reiki.
Don't know since the Bishops have
    disapproved if they are still
    practicing it. affraid
