sayings within your circle of family/friends/other

Post by chi_solas on Wed Dec 02, 2009 3:49 am

My Great-grandfather use to say "The first day we fail to learn something new, is the first day we start getting stupid"

Alienprogeny. made this statement in one of his postings.
I thought what an interesting thought. I wondered how many
different sayings the RLL community can come up with that
was heard within your circle of family/friends.

    My father-inlaw would say. scratch
you put a beggar on a horse and he'll ride himself to death

I'm afraid my family was rather more prosaic. Their sayings usually related to practical things! The only one that comes to mind is "no better than she ought to be" when talking about a loose woman!

My mom has been known to say, "We're all f*cked up, but at least we're all f*cked up together!" Laughing

When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.
    -Jimi Hendrix

(Not exactly in my family or circle of friends - but I like it!)

Here is one closer to home:

Reiki is what happens when you make friends with the Universe!

(I just thought of that one myself!).
    Very Happy

i remember one phrase of my babajee (guru)...

he said (translation) "all paths are like running water routes, that try to merge in one same ocean ultimately".

but the phrase which always holds me is "mann bheetar, mann murshid"

    (guru lives within us)

    how true !! Smile

(and equally how comfy for the ego too Wink Smile

There is apparently an old Japanese waka which says something along similar lines. I don't have the actual waka but its message is:

"There are many paths up the mountain but the view of the moon from the top is the same."

    Smile
