Yes, I'm familiar with the written form of 'Reishi' - it is the remainder of the particular sentence I'm interested in. Specifically the kanji used where it is explained that the term Reishi can be understood as 'spiritual force'

In the copy of Ogawa's book I have, he mentions a Tanaka Daiseido as having used the term Reiki Ryoho, prior to Usui sensei doing so , though there is no mention of Tanaka Morihei or of Taireido

Hi James! I think that "Tanaka Daiseido" could be "Tanaka's Taireido".

This is of course a possibility (the quality of translation in the English version of Ogawa's book is poor to say the least), however I do not think this is so.

The reference to Tanaka Daiseido is as follows:

"When Reiki Ryoho Began?
In the modern times, Tanaka Daiseido first used this method for medical treatment. However, Mr. Tanaka ended off this method by himself. Next, Choso Mikao Usui of the Nihon Reiki Gakkai, to which we belong, appeared."

i've read a little bit about this tonight. that he was indeed a nationalist, and he did petition the Emporer in 1903 to wage the war on Russia. Which incidentally made him famous.

What i read, was he didn't have his spiritual expereince till 1905, after a 90 day fast. If this is true, he mightn't have actually been a spiritual founder when he wanted war? notwithstanding he still kept his interest in politics.

I am not sure it is, i have found some stuff on Tanaka Daiseido - but can´t find the link now... will post it asap - however it is still possible, as if i remember correct the info on "Tanaka Daiseido" was kind of vague.

I'm very happy to have inspired (somehow) the creation of the book "Usui's Teacher-The Writing of Tanaka" (forewords and footnotes: Frank Shortt and Allan Sweeney).
I was sure that my discovery would have been important developments!

Seriously though, there are some disputes that have come up between myself and my writing-partner (co-author) which I will not go into details here. (James, you know the issues I am referring to and I thank you for pointing it out - seemed to have a better effect coming from a objective 3rd party than from myself.)
The issues are being corrected.
From my introduction and foreword I tried to make it clear that there is no proof of connection between Taireido and Reiki, even though some techniques are identical. My partner however, believed this "evidence" was clear.... I am making sure these assumptions are minimised and removed where possible, or at least explained properly in a note that will go out with the book.

I am aware, thanks to James, that some of the statements might seem like misinformation (regarding Takata...) This was never our intention, and will be corrected. My partner has a strong view on these things, but I am confident that it has been softened now, especially after he has read Mr Deacon's work on Takata and reiki history.

On another note, I am convinced that my partner did not write it with malicious intent, but actually believed he had a strong case to make the point - based on the similarities found in the two systems. Others statements, I do believe was just a bad marketing tactic.

Difference of opinion between us (the authors) was overcome by finding a middle way - so there are still things that I am not happy about, had it not been for James objective feedback I think the battle of the wills would have still been ongoing.

Sorry for not replying before, I have been on tour shooting since early feb, and just got back.

I hope to get more feedback from you guys, and make the book better for the readers.
