I received an email today from an Italian friend, Giuseppe Paterniti, who has written a short article about the art of Taireido.

[It has often been suggested that Usui-sensei may have studied with, or at least, have been influenced by, Taireido's founder: Morihei Tanaka]

Google Translate is quite good, yet can be unintentionally misleading at times; for example, part of the translated text states:
"In 1910 he completed his opera "Taireido Jiten" (The Code of the Street of the Great Spirit)..."

however, 'opera' should read 'work' and 'street' should read 'way'


Then again ....

"Taireido - the Opera", or better still "Reiki - the Musical"

I wonder if Andrew Lloyd Webber is busy for the next couple of months

Interesting that Taireido is said to no longer be practiced, and, the founder died of a heart attack.

Something that made my skin come out in goosebumps was the description of Tai Rei. It is so close to Gnostic teachings on what the true creator is, it's uncanny.

Yes, it is amazing how many similarities there are between certain of the various so-called "New Religions" in early 20th century Japan and the manner in which the founder began the system - in some cases even down to casting away stones to keep track of time during fasting!

Thanks for that link, Frank. It looks like it is the blog of the same person who was writing on the web paged I gave the links to above but this is more detailed.

The Reiki and Sociology link from the blog page is also very interesting! It contains information about another probably fictitious lineage of "Japanese" Reiki
that I had not come across, which is being proposed by a French person.

It seems that the writer, a member of the 'Institute of Traditions of Japan', is also a Gendai Reiki practitioner and he mentions in another link from his page that the Gendai Reiki is the only Reiki lineage officially recongnised by the Japanese Government, as Hiroshi Doi is apparently some sort of advisor to the Minister of the Interior! (Note: Hiroshi Doi has studied many traditional Japanese healing and self-development methods but also many Western and New Age type methods and was originally attuned to Reiki by Mieko Mitsui, a student of Barabra Ray. He says he was invited to join the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai by the then chairperson Komiko Koyama and his Gendai Reiki system teaches a mixture of traditional Reiki techniques but also techniques from other systems Doi has studied or has developed himself.The spiritual core of Gendai Reiki, taught at Shinpiden, is said to come from Usui's original teachings and I have not seen this information taught in other Reiki styles I have studied so far.)
