    Greetings from Australia

Post by wytche on Wed Sep 21, 2011 9:24 am

    Hi,

I live in Melbourne, Australia. I'm a recent Reiki Master.

What brought me to this path I'm not sure. I recall seeing a movie when I was a child about a woman who had a gift. She would touch people and they would heal, but upon doing so she'd absorb whatever illness they had. Eventually it became very public and she was turned into a celebrity and people would come from all over to be touched by her. Sceptics and doctors would analyse her and her life because chaotic until one day she ups and leaves. Then one day whilst in the desert filling her car at a petrol station a small child sit waiting in another vehicle for her father. The child is bald. The lady introduces herself and we realise the child has a terminal illness. Upon leaving the lady asks if she may have a hug and she hugs the child. We, the audience, know she has absorbed the child's illness and now will die.

I must have been about 9 years old when I saw that movie, but I thought at the time how wonderful it would be to be able to touch people and help to improve their lives. That thought stayed with me throughout my life.

Now I know Reiki isn't quite that dramatic, but it's the essence of love and genuine desire to ease people's pain whether that be physical or spiritual to which Reiki came to my attention.

your description of the movie reminded me of
"The eagle and the Rose" by Rosemary Altea's
and also Donna Eden I believe she's from
    Australia

    Hi Wytche.

I remember that movie and having watched it twice... some 20 years ago. I don't recall the title... wasn't the main character one of the ladies who appeared in Christopher Walken's The Dead Zone movie?

I'm really trying to recall the name of that movie... didn't Louise Fletcher play the main character? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001221/

Yes it was her I'm sure, but I too can't recall the name of that movie. I only ever saw it once.

Ah, remembering the movie has been killing me because like you, it really made an impact on my beliefs.

    The actress was Ellen Burstyn
    http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000995/

    and the movie was
    Resurrection (1980).

Not sure if Netflix is available world-wide, but it's available for streaming viewing on Netflix.

Sorry no, that's not the movie I'm referring to. The Last scene of the movie she is filling up at a petrol station in the desert and hugs the child. It's definitely not Ellen Burstyn Smile

Ah, well if you happen to remember the title, please pass it along my way, I'd love to watch the movie you described.

Here are a few images from the 1980's Resurrection movie that I mentioned:

You know I just looked at the final scene on YouTube and I think that's the movie!

I sincerely apologise. (I wonder why we thought it was Louise Fletcher? I'm sure I've seen her do a similar movie)

Please don't apologise, and it still could be another movie... I've been wanting to re-watch this movie for years and have always thought the main character was also the same lady who starred in Brainstorm with Christopher Walken (another of my mistakes, it was not Dead Zone as I originally thought), and haven't been able to find it until now--and that is thanks to you.

    :-)

I was just sure it was in black and white and have always liked Louise Fletcher since seeing that film. Perhaps someone else here will enlighten us eventually Laughing
