    Japanese Tea Ceremony

Post by LightBody on Sun Aug 15, 2010 12:25 pm

    I'm very happy.

Last week during a Masonic dinner, one of our brethren brought a guest who was exploring the possibility of becoming a Mason. This guest was of Japanese descent, and his wife is a Japanese National. We sat at the same table, and his wife was seated by my side.

Since she was obviously fluent in Japanese, I was able to practice what little I know and that opened doorways to even more conversation. I discovered that she was a recently certified Japanese Tea Ceremony Teacher and was in the process of building her student base.

Tomorrow, Monday, is my first trial class, and I'm certain that I will be her next student!

I'm so happy about this because I have wanted to learn the Japanese Tea Ceremony since I lived in the San Francisco Zen Center (1993). Finally, after all these years, it's happening AND by someone who is a Japanese National! Yay!

    A Japanese tea ritual so
    unique and proper.

It's fun to brew tea using the right
delph ware, getting the water to the
right temperature and letting the tea
leaves sit for x amount of minutes.
Much better than a tea bag.
