reiki for migraine - sensation of heat and freezing

Post by Liz_S on Fri Aug 13, 2010 5:45 am

    Hi there,

I'm new to the forum and new to Reiki. I did Reiki level 1 a couple of months ago.

Since then I have been giving myself Reiki every day and I have really found it has helped a lot of problems. I have also given my husband and my sister Reiki. I have experienced extreme heat in my hands when giving it to them and they both felt that heat in areas where they have problems.

Earlier today, my husband had to go to bed with a severe migraine. It had started yesterday, he had taken tablets for it and he felt that it had gone today. However, while outside working it came back with full force. He was in agony - he actually said later that he thought he could have been having a stroke as it felt so bad. He took more tablets and lay down. Instinctively, I put my hands on his head to do Reiki. I didn't know if it would help or not, but there was nothing to lose by trying. Normally, if he has a bad migraine, he wouldn't let me anywhere near him, but he didn't mind my hands being there, so I continued. He eventually fell asleep and has woken up feeling much better. He told me that when I had my hands on his head he felt an extreme burning heat from my hands, then suddenly, as if someone had flicked a switch, the heat turned to freezing cold. I felt the heat, not the cold. Does anyone have any experience of this? My thoughts were that Reiki has a way of knowing what your body needs.

As I say, I am very new to Reiki and I am finding it so interesting - just wish that I had know about it years ago!

Different sensations felt by both the practitioner and the client are not unusual and really just indicate that Reiki is doing its work. They are usually found at an area of energetic imbalance or a build up of toxins (physical or emotional) - these areas are known as byosen in Japanese and indicate places where you should keep your hands longer, if possible until the sensation weakens and disappears.

I try not to get hung up on what particular sensations mean and let Reiki get on with it!

Thank you Colin and Salman. I think I am still in amazement of how powerful Reiki energy is. My husband is now well and truly a believer in it too.

Hi Chi, sometimes if he goes too long without eating he can get migraines, but this hadn't been the case with this one. It is the worst migraine he has had for a long time, and he has never had one go on over two days. Normally he'll take mgraine tablets, sleep for a couple of hours and it's gone. Thankfully today, it seems to be over - he is just left with that 'day after the migraine' feeling. I'll be giving him some more Reiki later.
