    An interesting site about early Japanese martial arts and culture

    Hi All

    Here is an interesting martial arts site that has some articles which are of relevance to those who want to get a better idea of Japanese culture and their understanding of rei (spirit), ki (vital energy) and ri (principle).

    http://www.bujutsu.org.uk/articles.html

    Very Happy

    Hi All

    Just in case any of you were expecting to find out more about 'rei' in the sense of spirit by following the link I posted above (without actually reading that particular article Rolling Eyes ), I thought I had better post what James sent me via PM because apparently only Admin can post replies here! (Thanks, James, for pointing this out as well!)

    James wrote:

    Following the link you posted, the Rei discussed in the article "The Search for Rei" is not the rei indicating spirit but rather the rei indicating proper attitude and conduct;
    ones demeanour, and manner – how one interacts with others:

    This is a common theme in Japanese martial arts

    This rei is about formal etiquette (reigi) politeness, good manners,– also about showing respect , consideration; and gratitude

    Its the same Rei as in 'Gassho Rei ' ( the 'Gassho Bow' )

    and as in:

    reiki ni rei
