hi new member question about my reiki master

Post by dreamer on Thu Nov 12, 2009 12:01 pm

Hello im new here, for as long as i can rerember strange things have allways happened to me its got worse lately so i looked in to having my chakras balanced, fast forward weeks later and ive just been attuned to reiki 1.

Somethings with my reiki master im a little unsure of now if im honest. They gave me a right telling of for doing something wrong where as i feel it wasnt explained properly to me and in the manuel they gave me mentioned nothing on it.

i was doing some reiki to day and something happened that really scared me i was only attuned on sunday so didnt think anything would happen like this allready and thought when it didi it would happen slowly as my master had told me not like it did.
i phoned my reiki master and they said its fine will happen then for my telephone started making all funny noise and we got cut off, my phone would not work for 15 mins after as the battery light was flashing even though it was fully charged, at this point i was petrified as i know how spirits can drain batterys, i was in the house with my son who has special needs.

When i was able to phone my reiki master back they said its fine ive got to get used to it and in future to email and if they think its serious then they will phone me.

I sort of feel ive had athe flood gates open and they are now deserting me to deal by my self.

Am still feeling freacked out by it all.

Please can some one give me some advice Thankyou in advance

i just briefly described above but here its a bit more indeph

In My manual when it says about self healing it tells you each thing you need to do like 1) gassho etc but no where it says about using protection for self healing it does for when using reiki on some one else but not for self healing.
So for the first few days ive been doing it without protection when i queried it with my master they went crazy at me shouting down the phone to me, when i came off the phone i burst out crying. I have the uttermost respect for reiki and if i thought for 1 min that i should of been using protection then i would.

So yesterday i did the reiki with protection, when i got to my throat chakra i heard a hissing noise like pressure release his, then when i got to my heart chakra a man came forward and said "hello, how are you" i straight away closed my self down and was petrified, when i tried to call my reiki master for help as he had been telling me this kind of thing wouldnt happen for months or even years as its a very slow process, he was telling me to get used to it and then we got cut off.

After 20 mins for the phone to work again for no reason when i called them back they said in future to email and if they think its urgent enough then they will phone me.

So i was really shaken after all of this, i sort of feel now that i wish i hadnt been attuned as my reiki master was telling me before that if i was level 1 then i will be able to deal with things better thats going on in my home.

I have 2 children the oldest is autistic and the yougest we are going throogh the motions of getting them a diagnosis as we believe they are also on the autistic spectrum.

My oldest wont go up stairs to play on his video games as hes to scared hes also sleeping on our bedroom floor with his matress as again hes to scared to sleep in his bedroom. I beleave that my oldest can sense things and with what happened yesterday im feeling even more that i wish i wasnt attuned

Dreamer... I will respond to you later today, as right now I need to get ready for work. I understand how distressing new experiences like this can be, so first and foremost, I am intending that Reiki will help calm you down and give you understanding.

Everything will be alright. Remember the 5 principles, say them out loud, and everything will be perfectly alright.

Ok... here is my promised long and hopefully helpful response:

On your RMT:

I think that you aren't getting the gentle support that is required given your 'awakening' experiences. For your RMT to give you the "riot act" so to speak for not setting up protection during a self-healing is ludicrous in my mind. First and foremost, we should remember that we are human, and we will make mistakes. We will forget things.

A gentle reminder that the way he/she teaches is that you should set up protection under all circumstances when facilitating a Reiki session would have been sufficient. You are obviously a grown adult if you have children, and as such, you shouldn't be treated like a child and yelled at (I wouldn't yell at a child like that either) for something that small.

I'd suggest finding a new RMT. There are several on this board who live in the UK that I'm sure could help you out and give you the gentle support you require.

On Protection:

There was a good thread on this board about this very thing.

http://www.reikilearninglounge.com/reiki-general-f1/protection-reiki-t39.htm

Check out that and see what you think. To summarize though:

1) Some people believe they need protection. If you believe you do, then you do. It is that simple. It isn't wrong, its just how you choose to perceive the unseen world.

2) Some people believe that you don't need protection with Reiki, as Reiki provides its own protection. But that you still need protection against other spirits and negative energies. Again, if you believe you need protection, then you do.

3) I personally don't believe there is any such thing as negative or positive energies or entities. Merely energy that is or is not compatible with your energy. If it is not compatible it can bring your energy out of balance. Simple balancing exercises can take care of this. I do not need protection.

You can study and read all the thoughts on this, and decide for yourself what you want, and then live that belief system. Its all good.

On your Experiences:

Often the first reaction we have to new experiences, is to be frightened. It seems you were frightened and wigged out a bit by your new 'awakening' experiences. The man who said hello to you, well my impression was that he wasn't being threatening. So next time you see him, say hello back and ask him what you can do for him. The mundanity of the interaction may surprise you.

As for your son, many children tend to be empathic to a certain level with those they love. Especially parents and siblings they are close to. I'm not very familiar with Autism, so I can't speak to whether this would be more prevalent in an autistic child. But I do know that one of the symptoms of certain types of autism, is that the child does not know how to process the sensations they are receiving. They are strong and the child often becomes overwhelmed by the sensations. So it is possible the reason your child is acting frightened, is because he is picking up your fear and exhibiting it without realizing it. So if you work on being calm and collected with your new experiences, your child is likely to follow suite.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

very nice response thaak..

what a shame that your first encounters with Reiki have proved so counterproductive... My Reiki attunements have been such beautiful experiences a profound opening of the spiritual heart heart smiley ... I'm so sorry to hear that you have not received the appropriate support you require...I would part company with this Reiki teacher...highly unethical in my view on many levels.. and shouting at you!?!? how bizarre..

and as far as protection is concerned I'm of the school that it's not needed.... alien

Hi,

I went through the same thing, and felt the same way you do now....it`s ok...honest.

I had all manner of experiences happen that I was not used to, or prepared for...It`s like this my friend...You have new senses that you can access now...which equals...new experiences for your mind to process...AND!!...believe it or not, you are still, and always will be in control.

I had experiences with spirits...contact that i was was not expecting...Pots and other stuff in my cupboards would bang and rattle when I would meditate for long periods...there`s more, but you do not need to hear about it...It slowed down after a while...

I say you are in control because.....

I realized so much more psychic information from my attunements, that it made me uncomfortable in some public situations...I willed my self to limit the psychic input i received until I got used to dealing with, and more importantly, comfortable with processing this info. I still do not do things or set the intention for this to increase again, cause really, to me it serves no purpose in my life... So....You are in control...things will slow down a bit, and also you will most likely come to find that the extra sensibilities that you have found, are a joy to have in the long run...

Attunements do change things for us, but, you get to decide who you are....want to be....and you can decide too, if things in Reiki do not honor your vision of yourself, or what makes you comfortable...

If you cannot get what you seek from the person who attuned you, in regard to peace of mind I mean, then turn else where for information...This is what i did, and it helped me deal with the new sensitivities i had realized, and situations I found myself in.

I will say this...Do not let fear rule the day...try to experience the "new things" from a learning point of view....I was freaked out a bit, with some of the things I experienced in the beginning...but nothing bad ever happened...other than my own fear...The experiences were marvelous, I would not change this for the world, even though they were a little hair raising at the time...peace to you....

Smile RJ

ReikiJim & Thaak I certainly have learned
new info from your responses. I did not have any
unusual experiences after my attunements. I did
have to focus on all the new information I was
receiving. I joined a few Reiki Forums and found
that there was much for me to learn about the Reiki
system. I find that you both have much to offer here
on the RLL sunny

Good advice so far. Only skimmed through it.

Fear has no place in Reiki. It's a most beautiful expereince. Just for today, don't worry. Protection isn't needed. I test it on a daily basis for 2 years now, after firmly believing in it.

As far as your teacher goes, they should clear off outta your life. A teavhers job, with a student, id first & foremost to support the student, in an atmosphere of respect & help, which fosters growth. Your teacher is a poor example.

Stick around here, as many questions, there's many excellant teachers of all Reiki tastes here.

Thank you al for your wise words, i havent been able to get online as my telephone line had a problem.

i have another question as well

Before i was attuned to reiki with my reiki master i paid for a session to find my spirit guide, i feel that the infomation i was given was wrong, i was given a full name year or birth, year of death, the ocupation, where they lived and it wasnt that lang ago just over a 100 years i have tried searching for them online and came up with nothing.
Also when i call out i dont get any signs from them.

Ive allready deided that im not going to have any more contact with my reiki master, and as for reiki i feel at the moment like having a breack from it untill i feel confident enough and then maybe find a new reiki master.

You can guide & protect yourself also bro, Smile.

I personally havn't used any other form of 'protection' that's not already in Reiki, in bout 2 years now. I'm fine. Smile

Hi Dreamer.

Spirit Guides were not a part of the original Reiki system practiced by Mikao Usui, but some Reiki systems have evolved that includes them. So, Wayne is correct, and so are you. ;-)

I think that the experiences you are having are wonderful because of the difficulty they present. Right now, these experiences probably seem undesirable and perhaps overwhelming, but in the near future they will help you gain a much better understanding of yourself. Hindsight, after all, is always 20/20.

For a moment, try imagining yourself in your Reiki Teacher's position, perhaps by comparing it to your position as the mother of two beautiful children (because you are the principal teacher to them). Are you able to always keep them completely happy and fulfill all of their needs? I'm not a parent but I am an uncle through my brother and sister, and I hear stories about how they can't do everything but they do their best even though they make mistakes along the way.

As a Reiki Teacher, I learned that I cannot fulfill all of the needs of my students. Like my brother and sister, I have made mistakes along the way. I am as human as everyone else, and probably like everyone else, was drawn to Reiki by its promise of healing.

It wasn't the power to heal others that appealed to me so much as it was the desire to heal myself (and help others). Sixteen years ago, I was just as new to Reiki as you are today. I knew that there was a lot going on in my life that I did not understand, and believed that things could be easier if I knew more and did things in a different way.

Through the benefit of my hindsight, it seems that each time I became involved with a Reiki Teacher, that person was always more wrong and always did at least one thing that was spiritually inappropriate. It was much easier for me to find and focus on their problems and their limitations as a spiritual teacher, than it was to find their value in my life.

What I knew then, but did not understand, was that Reiki is essentially a practice that helps the practitioner heal... and that includes the teacher. The teacher is just as human as, and in need of just as much healing, as the student. Eventually I found myself exploring the question "as a Reiki Practitioner, is it right for me to abandon someone who needs healing?"

In the beginning, I did. I abandoned a few teachers and promoted their flaws to others, but through my hindsight today, I see those actions reflecting greater flaws in myself than the teacher. Those were very painful and troublesome times, but I healed through them. Some prominent Reiki teachers of today still refuse to let me heal out of that past--they hold on to my mistakes and continue to promote them to their student base, but that too, is a part of my healing process (and theirs).

There is nothing wrong with learning from other Reiki Teachers. Personally, I don't believe that any one person has all of the right answers, at least not today. I believe that every Reiki Practitioner who participates in any Reiki forum is a Reiki Teacher. Sharing experiences, receiving feedback, and learning through the contributions of others is how we grow in person and in spirit.

I don't know the best path for you to take, but you are a Reiki Practitioner, and being such empowers you with the ability to not only help yourself heal, but to help others heal as well--and that includes your original Reiki Teacher.
