hi buddies

We know Usui sensei observed an earthquake in his vicinity in later years of his life, and we have also heard that he worked zealously for the affected people. I want (rather request) researchers to enlighten us with his 'way' of working in such situations ? For example :

..........Did he adopt the the 'blanket reiki' approach to send reiki to masses, rather sending reiki to 'situations' like we had tsunami, haiti quake, and of recently the highly fatal flood spree in my country ...

I'm torn between what schools of approach to this issue to take. Some say that Usui taught a three level system such as Shoden, Okuden and Shinpiden.

On the other hand, aetw says otherwise.

Does anyone here know what approach to take to this issue? I'm concocting my first manual and need some pointers toward what would be considered at least historically accurate.

Hi everyone,

Next to practising Reikihō one of my main interests regarding 'Reiki' is the history of Usui-sensei's teachings and the way it developed after his death.

A couple of months ago a read a book written by Tadao Yamaguchi and I thought it was very illuminating.

This branch seems to me like it is a very good and nice system.

Because Reiki history is such a passion of mine and since Jikiden Reiki teachers say they give "Reiju", I am very, very interested in the similarities ...

Hi All

Here is a rare opportunity to hear Hawayo Takata telling the story of Mikao Usui and how he found Reiki. The quality is quite poor but it is from a tape recorded in 1979...and, yes, I know that this version of the story has elements which do not appear to be historically correct but it is the way people first heard about Reiki in the West and we should respect that. If Mrs Takata had not chosen to tell this story, none of us would be practicing Reiki today!

I got involved in Reiki cause it was non-religious

My Reiki Master Teacher who is a very devoted

christian, was very clear that Reiki was not Laying

on of hands or christian. It's my understanding that

Takata was the person who implement the christianity

theme into Reiki.

If we were wanting to research something specific - such as what the intent behind the teachings of the system of Reiki was - how would ...

Hi all

Some fellow researchers may be interested in this link:

http://www.archive.org/stream/japanchristian19unknuoft/japanchristian19unknuoft_djvu.txt

It is the full text (although strangely formatted in places!) of the Japanese Christan Yearbook for 1920.

It includes some information about Shinto-based sects that were around then (i.e. in Usui's time) including Oomoto and Taireido and lists several books which were commentaries about/against them.

It also gives an idea ...

Edit: Moved from another topic. To discuss possible influencing factors including those within 'new' religions at the time of Usui sensei. This isn't to suggest in any way that Reiki is religious.

this is going off topic a bit, but also been looking at "new religions" from early 1900 in japan and found another one that has similarities to usui´s story.

I've been printing just about every page i could find over at AETW, and am wondering if anyone here knows how accurate the information given om Usui senseis memorial stone is. Is it worth taken it into consideration, or should one assume that it is strongly biased as his students wrote it?

Anyone have any ideas?

I wanna take the chance to highlight some points that Wille Rand said about the 'Origins of Reiki' in his response to the Bishops view on Reiki at http://www.reiki.org/reikinews/ResponseBishopsStatement.html .

Wille Rand starts this section by saying that what Takata sensei said about Usui sensei discovering the secret of Reiki in Buddhist texts is untrue. What i have read myself is, Takata sensei said Usui sensei saw sanskrit text he had been studying in gold, glowing letters. There's a ...
